Rachel Covington and M & R Consulting on: Virtual VS In-Person Board & Meetings

During the COVID crisis, board members have had to engage in virtual meetings out of necessity.

In doing so, the average attendance has increased with the various organizations my firm has engaged in. I believe the reasons are:

· It is easier for a board member to access the virtual meeting.

· Travel is not necessary.

· It takes less time to access and allows for more efficient use of time.

· Obtaining a quorum is easier because of increased attendance.

While all of us would like to engage with our board members in-person, let us not dismiss the positive effects of a virtual setting.

The ability to conduct board and organizational business un-interrupted ( no need to cancel or wait for pandemic to ease up) has been a saving grace for many non-profits. As we transition back to “normal,” it is my belief that virtual meetings and venues will remain relevant. It will become part of the “new normal,” going forward, and non-profit organizations will continue to benefit from this setting.
