Charitable Organizations and Social Responsibility

A legendary management guru (Peter Drucker) stated there is no such thing as ‘bungalow capitalism’’. He went on to say that either an organization has an overarching commitment to social responsibility or it should not exist no matter how much money it is making.

Non-profits by definition and by their incorporation have a charitable purpose. Serving others is the goal, not accumulating surpluses.   Serving a specific population is a start. But if doing that becomes nothing more than a niche market that attracts contributions, generates revenues, and strives for a surplus of revenues over expenses then is it demonstrating a commitment to social responsibility? Does it become a non-profit version of a for-profit?

How does the organization apply its revenues and its surpluses? What value added service does it provide to its clients? What about community service? Advocacy? How is it perceived in the community at large?

These questions are simply to get leaders to think about the broader topic of social responsibility.

We work with organizations to help them create a focus around social responsibility and to integrate that focus into the life of the organization.

We provide a free consultation to listen to your needs and assess them.
